How to apply

It is recommended that you order the University of Sussex undergraduate prospectus which contains all you need to know about making your application.

In terms of entrance requirements the standard A level offer is ABB. We are looking for students who show an aptitude and interest in music. For the BSc, we encourage those from alternative musical backgrounds to apply, whether turntablists, sitarists, laptopists, or thrash drummers! For potential music informatics BA students, there are additional conditions to be aware of. BA course applicants require Grade 7 music theory or A level music (or A level music technology as long as score reading is part of the syllabus). If you wish to take up performance lessons and follow the (optional) performance route of the degree, you will be required to hold Grade 8 in an instrument by the time you start the degree. Information about how to obtain Associated Board Grades can be found at the ABRSM site

The Music Informatics programme leader is Nick Collins. Feel free to contact him if you have questions which aren't answered here, though please do take the time to check through this site first, including the FAQ, for the information you need. Although there is some flexibility in our offer-making for various combinations of qualifications, please note we are unable to make a definite decision before considering your full UCAS application.

Visiting the University

All applicants who are offered a place at Sussex are invited to attend one of the Admissions Days which take place between December and April. These days include talks, tours and demos and give you an impression of what it's like to be a student here. You also get to meet current students and teaching staff.

If you prefer to view our campus before making your application, you can book a visit. Sometimes we can arrange for you to meet a member of our Music Informatics teaching staff when you are on campus for a tour.
