BA or BSc?The Music Informatics degree programmes offer a rich blend of courses from the Departments of Music and Informatics, the BA favouring advanced music and the BSc advanced computing options. However, the degrees share many components, including specialised electronic music courses, also taken to advanced level and intended exclusively for Music Informatics students. All Music Informatics undergraduates benefit from full membership of both departments, which includes 24/7 access to the Informatics computing labs and also to the Music practice rooms and computer room. There is also a further dedicated music informatics lab only for music informatics students. Below, you will see an overview of the two programmes; note that although there may be slight variations from year to year, this is substantially the programme as you would take it. Further details, including options and individual course components are listed in the main Informatics department programme specifications BA
BSc
One further difference is that BA students have the possibility of Trinity College of Music lessons on their instrument, though this entails a higher entrance requirement in music grades or equivalents, or the passing of an audition held at the beginning of the degree- see the 'applying' page for details.
