Abba-Logo    30 years sonce Waterloo         Single: Dancing Queen
Agnetha was a member of the legendary swedish Pop group of the 70ies ABBA! "Dancing Queen" was my first single, my first (venyl at the time) disc at all which I got as a birthday present from my sister. Björn, Benny and Anna-frid were the other members of Abba.
"'Dancing Queen' is like vanilla ice cream for your ears" (Quote from somewhere in the web). In fact they mixed several of their own voice recordings together. That was one secret of their special sound.
Abba seemed to be the first band to have two female lead singers and even cheeky and sexy ones. They had fancy dresses (well, sometimes almost preposterous) and a (usually simple) choreography. After all, it was the time of Glamour Rock.
In 1977, long time before MTV was born, they were one of the first to produce videos of their songs (to minimise their time on tours).
Abba started 1971 and their career was boosted by the '74 success at the Euopean Song Contest in an English town. Unfortunately, they went spearate ways in 1983. Abba had 18 consecutive Top Ten singles in the UK charts, 9 number ones. In Germany it is about the same with even 6 consecutive number ones. In Australia, a country with only 14 million inhabitants, they sold 1 million copies of the 'Greates Hits' album alone. Altogether, the group has sold more than 350 million records up to now, still counting...
Favourite songs: Dancing Queen, SOS, The Winner Takes It All, Angeleyes, Move on, As good as new, Take a chance on me, Eagle, Two for the price of one, The day before you came.

Mind you that all albums have been digitally remastered and re-released in 1997 with additional bonus tracks.
Teenie groups like the A*Teens that copy ABBA-songs look rather ridiculous to me as the boys do not play any instrument and on stage just swan around. Definitely, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson have to be mentioned in one sentence with Lennon & McCartney or Richards & Jagger. Their melodies and (admittedly) simple lyrics are still remembered easily by many of us.
